Today's Mission: Get in the f*cking pool. Again.

I’ve been giving myself little fitness missions in 2011, because I’ve decided that I actually do care about my body after all! You might not have known that had you been tracking what I’ve been eating over the past decade or so.

After successfully upgrading gyms, the next phase of my fitness plan came into play… the mission? “Get in the f*cking pool.” I swam solo at my gym for all of 20-30 minutes attempting to look like I knew what I was doing… while confiding in my lane partner that it was all a not-so-elaborate ruse.

But the mission was accomplished, and marked the start of the “build up some stamina” work out phase. The next phase would come in the late spring/early summer, when I’d don my speedo and join the aqua gays on the Orca Swim Team. Ahh, but the universe had other plans for me!

I put in one of my chat profiles that I was trying to start getting into swimming, and a nice guy named Brian messaged me to say hello and suggested I screw the stamina-building and just get in the f*cking pool with the Orcas. After hearing his sales pitch a few more times I decided to take him up on the offer — tonight.

Today’s Mission: Get in the f*cking pool. (Again.)

Objectives:

Meet the swimmer gays.
Swim as much of the workout period as you can.
Swim further than you did last time. (just 200 yards)
Breathe more. (tougher than it sounds)

Mission: Accomplished!

Distance: 1,000 yards

Notes: Everyone was (sometimes literally) swimming laps around me, but Paul (the night’s coach) was nice and spent some quality time with me solidifying the basics. I’m very glad I went — but it kicked my ass, in a good way. Got a cramp when I used the kickboard, but stretched and then pushed through.

I’m going to go pass out now… Go me!

I’m currently with 24 Hour Fitness but really want to change gyms and start going to the much-fancier All-Star Fitness which is also conveniently located near my house.

I’ve gotten the green light from my partner to make the switch, so long as I can prove that I’m serious about actually using my gym membership again. So the challenge was presented: work out for thirteen days in a row and I could take the plunge! …into All-Star’s glorious pool for morning swims. :)

So the challenge is on — a work-out on every day between New Year’s Day and the date of our upcoming sunny vacation. Oh, I also have to lose a few pounds — shouldn’t be a problem if I’m working out though, right?

So far so good, three workouts completed and a fourth that was postponed from 4:00AM today to 4:00PM today. I also want to hop into a class for a workout or two.

The ultimate goal is to get into swimming… perhaps even joining up with the ORCA Swim Team in Seattle once I’ve got my sea legs.

I’ve entered the June 16th Warrior Dash near Seattle, WA....

Saint Germain Pear Martini

2 parts Pear Vodka
2 parts Saint Germain (Elderflower Liqueur)
1 part Sour Mix

To Serve:

Fill martini shaker with ice.
Add all ingredients
Shake (until shaker is almost too cold to hold)
Serve “up” in martini glass.

This is my favorite thing to drink right now… enjoy!
