Tangible Goods
I’ve been on a bit of a baking binge lately. Cookies, cakes, brownies… desserts have been baked, wrapped, and packed off to hungry coworkers and family memers. It keeps me off the laptop for a night and works an entirely different set of creative muscles. (It also makes the house smell amazing.)
When working all day writing software, then coming home and pouring more energy into...

A coworker today told me that he’d Googled me and been amazed at the number of results. The least I can do is have updated information for prying eyes, right?

Alaska Airlines Flight 14 : Now Playing
Perhaps it is the cross-country flight, the long weekend away from home, or just the three Cape Cods I’ve had… but I’ve powered through reading half of Twilight, and feel like I’m a little too into it.
(Thanks again to Robert and Kyle’s Amazon gift certificates, who are partially responsible for the book to end up on my Kindle.)

Leaving on a jet plane...
This trip has been so fun and filled with little observations… We’re in the GORGEOUS Oslo airport, where many staffers get around with Razor-style scooters… Some even with a little cargo platform on the front!
The food in all three countries hasn’t been as terrible as everyone makes it sound… We’ve actually enjoyed nearly all of it!
Oslo also has a bad rap...
We’re on the move… Heading towards the Netherlands locks. I’ve had one cocktail and am drunk… Beware the Long Beach Iced Tea!
Captain’s reception soon, then the formal dinner. We have already drunkenly purchased cologne duty-free onboard… Beware when the casino opens!
I love vacations. We still have a week until we’re back at work! Seems like...
Departing Amsterdam
What a whirlwind of activity!
So, making our way from London to the Harwich Cruise Terminal the train line was down for construction - instead we had to board busses for the long drive. We did get to see some of the English countryside though.
The ship is quite nice, and as we pulled away from the pier a group of bagpipers played us off.
Yesterday we did a coach & canal boat tour of...
Yesterday in London
Our last few hours in London — how sad!
We slept well into 9am yesterday before heading off to find 221B Baker Street. We toured the gift shop and nearly missed the Sherlock Holmes Museum, but finally purchased tickets and went upstairs to see “his apartment.”
After that was a jaunt over to the British Museum, where we took a quick spin through the exhibits I was most...
It’s only mid-afternoon and we’ve already had an extremely busy day!
Seen, in order: London Bridge, Thames Ricer Walk, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Rsndom Pub, London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament (ext.), Westminster Chapel (ext.), Buckingham Palace (ext. w/guards), Green Park, Picadilly Circus again, and Soho.
Phew! We stopped for a pint in Soho and met up with one of my...
It was a challenge, but we managed to stay up until 10:30pm last night, watching Graham Norton after seeing the play “3 Days of Rain,” which I really enjoyed.
From the window of our cozy hotel room you can see a sliver of the billboards in Picadilly Circus (think a miniature Times Square), as well as the London Eye (where I think we’ll start things off today.)
True to form, I...

We’ve arrived in Amsterdam for our connection to Heathrow. Naturally we immediately found a Casino and (unless you count currency conversion fee) we’re up 1,50 EU! Now we’re sipping Fanta and water and waiting for our (enclosed) gate to open.
The flight over was great - upper deck Business Class on KLM. Good food — too much of it — and nice crew. I even managed to...

Kacie Kinzer:
“I wondered: could a human-like object traverse sidewalks and streets along with us, and in so doing, create a narrative about our relationship to space and our willingness to interact with what we find in it? More importantly, how could our actions be seen within a larger context of human connection that emerges from the complexity of the city itself? To answer these...
The people on the bus say, "Shh, shh, shh..."
It’s April 1st and I’m rejoining the transit riders of the Puget Sound — hoping that any day we’ll transition to absolutely beautiful weather that will be a joy to be outside in.
I ran into some familiar faces again on the ride in, a few of the regulars I remember seeing from last summer and a few of the memorable people waiting in the bus tunnel.
One lady is across the...

Nightcap
I have to be up in six hours, and am having trouble getting to sleep.
My remedy? A small slice of german chocolate cake and a glass of milk, eaten while standing in a dimly lit kitchen.
Now to let myself drift away.
Psycho Donuts →
…awesome! I so want to go here for donuts someday!
Eat the Guacamole & a piece of cake.
…just not at the same time. (Big mistake!)
March Madness
Doug is completely bonkers with March Madness this year… he’s in 5th place of the pool, only 20 points back.
The Pittsburgh win was a very big deal for him, apparently!
Chris on the Tonight Show with Troy D!
Troy D: It's CHRIS MONSOS!
Chris M: *tonight show theme plays*
Troy D: (applause)
Chris M: Thanks... thanks everybody, thanks!
Chris M: Great to be here
Troy D: Have a seat! I understand you're in a new movie!
Chris M: I am!
Chris M: It's a departure for me, but it's been a lot of fun
Troy D: Tell me all about it!
Chris M: Well, the film is called "Waiting for Fluffman" and it's kind of an art piece
Troy D: And you play...?
Chris M: Pork-me St. James
Troy D: Do we have a clip?
Chris M: The network actually would only let us show this two-second bit.
Chris M: So, this is me and I'm delivering a pizza to the frat house.
Chris M: And...
Chris M: Well, let's just watch.
Chris M: [film starts]
Chris M: [hand rings doorbell]
Chris M: [door opens]
Chris M: [clip ends]
Troy D: (applause)
Chris M: Thanks
Troy D: That was certainly revealing!
Chris M: Well, what was interesting to me that I discovered in filming
Chris M: Was the doorbell doesn't work at all!
Troy D: (laughter and applause)
Chris M: So my... erm... co-stars kept opening the door before I even rang the bell!
Troy D: (more laughter)
Troy D: Now, Chris -- I noticed in that film clip that you were only wearing a jockstrap.
Chris M: Mmmhmm, that's right
Chris M: In the script, I was supposed to be full monty
Chris M: But since I had a producer credit I flexed my muscles (so to speak) and made a costuming decision on my own
Troy D: (laughter)
Troy D: And what fine muscles they are! Did you do lots of training for the role?
Chris M: Well, I have to chalk it up to genetics.
Chris M: ...and an amazing plastic surgeon
Chris M: I think we figured it out
Chris M: and I'm really only 20% of the man I was when I was 20.
Troy D: (laughter)
Troy D: What's your next role?
Chris M: Actually I'll be in the West End next month as Earnest in "The Importance of being Earnest"
Chris M: Plus I have an album dropping this summer of Children's Music
Troy D: Oooh! Something to look forward to!
Troy D: Chris, thanks for joining us tonight -- it's always a pleasure!@
Chris M: Oh, thanks for having me Troy -- I love coming on!
Chris M: Can I stick around for the plate-spinning dogs??
Troy D: You bet!
Troy D: Also coming up after the break -- Jaleel White!
Troy D: (FTB)

An Adventure in Domesticity
I went to do a load of laundry tonight and discovered the machine already full of clothes and gray water… not a welcome sight, but my optimism was in full force and so I attempted to restart what was obviously a load mistakenly paused or aborted… right? Returning later, though, the optimism is defeated — the clothes and gray water were still there.
A bit of Googling was in order...

Slumdog Millionaire : a real-life iPhone...
Slumdog Millionaire was freaking awesome… and actually seeing it was a bit of an adventure in itself.
We arrived at the Majestic Bay Theater in Ballard about 15 minutes before the showtime, and the line wrapped from the single window of the box office all the way to the corner of the block. Kicking myself for not pre-ordering tickets at home, I hopped onto my iPhone to try to buy tickets...

Stocking Up on End-of-Summer Reads
Doug & I hit the bookstore after lunch today, and we gave the stores “3 for the price of 2” table a run for their money (not to mention my club card.) Since I’m taking the bus more and more, it gives me opportunity to read again! I’m enjoying being able to dig back into things — but may have to dust off my library card and start borrowing books. (Though, I did...
Eccentric vs. Obsessive-Compulsive
When I walk to the coffee shop near work, I hit the crosswalk button five times. The rhythm and sound of it just kind of sound right. When I make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich I assemble it with peanut butter on the right slice, and seedless strawberry jam on the left (after a quick knife wipe on the clean slice.) It is part of a lunchtime routine, just the way that I make a sandwich. When I...
